Questions
About the typing speed test
The average is about 40 words per minute. 50 to 60 WPM is good for office work, and 70 WPM or more is fast. Accuracy matters too: aim for 95% or better.
Every five correctly typed characters count as one word, divided by the minutes you typed. Mistakes do not count towards your speed, so accuracy and speed go together.
Most people speak at 130 to 160 words per minute, three to four times faster than they type. That gap is why dictation apps like Oravo save so much time.
Practise a few minutes every day, keep your fingers on the home row, look at the screen rather than the keys, and slow down until your accuracy is high. Speed follows accuracy.
